Adesina Condoles With Awolowos Over HID’s Death
The president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed sadness over the passing away of Mrs Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, saying that the incident occurred “just before her 100th birthday, which we had all looked forward to with much anticipation.”
In a condolence message to the Awolowo family through his media assistant, Dr. Olukayode Oyeleye, Adesina noted that “Mama was an epitome of resilience, tenacity and commitment in immortalising the great and enduring legacy and achievements of her husband, the late Papa Obafemi Awolowo.”
He recalled his growing years with gladness, saying that “as a boy, I benefited from the free primary education under the visionary policy of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, ably supported by Mama.”
He noted that “the free primary education laid the early foundation for what millions of us have become today. We will remain forever grateful for the opportunities you gave to us.”
Adesina lamented that the death of Mama HID “marks the end of a remarkable era, characterised by uncommon love and care for all, and undying dedication to the cause of helping others.”
He described the late HID Awolowo as “a pillar of strength for her family, even in the face of adversity that would have made others crumble.”
He was saddened that by her death, saying that, “Nigeria has lost a great asset who traversed generations.
