Cardiff University Research Centres To Tackle 'Major World Issues'

cardiff
Five new flagship research centres each tackling a "major world issue" are being launched by Cardiff University.
The institutes will find ways of solving chronic disease, water scarcity, crime prevention, big data and smarter energy systems.
Vice-chancellor Prof Colin Riordan said the university intends to become "world leaders" in these fields of research.
A launch event in the Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday evening will showcase the new centres.
They will bring the number of the university's research institutes to nine - the first four becoming active in 2011.
Prof Riordan said: "In the short time since the original institutes were formed in 2011, their pioneering work in areas ranging from drug discovery to neurological disease has already signalled to the world Cardiff's strengths and intentions as a global university.
"It is important that our research continues to offer answers to the biggest challenges that threaten our future, and I'm confident that by focusing our energies on these new areas we can succeed.
