Darius-Ishaku
The Governor of Taraba State, Arch. Darius Ishaku, has said his administration is in a tight corner to hit the ground running because of treasury of the state has been looted by the past leadership in the state.
Ishaku stated this Monday night when he host the members of Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, Taraba state chapter to a dinner at the Taraba Motel in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
Ishaku while lamenting the poor state of finance he inherited from the past administration stated that he was finding it “very difficult” to deliver promises he made during his governorship campaign across the state.
He further narrated that the state government has been borrowing money from commercial banks to pay salaries to the state government workers apart from the inherited debt he received in his handover note from the recent past acting governor of the state, Sen. Sani Abubakar Danladi.
According to him, Danladi was accused of looting the state government treasury by so many groups in the state through a petition to security and anti-graft bodies after his six months as acting governor of Taraba state.
Ishaku said the state financial status was completely reading red when he took over the mantle of leadership of the state three months ago.
“I made so many campaign promises across the state that am not finding easy to fulfill now that am on the seat of Taraba State as a governor.
“I was making those promises without knowing that I will meet the state treasury in an empty situation, now that I have won my election even though am determined to do my best for the people, what I met was an empty treasury.”
Ishaku who meet with the media working in the state for the first time after three months in office as a governor also lamented the level of unwanted killing of people in some selected areas of the state.
He urged the people of the state to remain peaceful, coexist with one another for the purpose of development. “Give me peace, I will give you development” Ishaku stated.
He therefore called on journalists to publish reports that would promote peace and review the aspects that are capable of causing insecurity in the society.
